It's the last day of the month which means it's my second month of Foodie Pen Pals. I actually received my pen pal goodies TODAY!
I was sort of sad about having nothing to post about when I decided to check the mail one last time and what was there? This big ol'box of foodie pen pal love.
Beth was my pen pal this month and she had a busy month but managed to send this out to me! Unfortunately I might not have specific enough with my pen pal about my dietary restrictions because most of the items aren't vegan :( These things happen I guess! Other vegan foodie pen pals, How do you explain veganism to your non-vegan pen pals?
It looks like the muffin mix is egg and milk free so I will be loving some of those this week! Blueberry muffins are some of my favorite.
Otherwise, the super fun 4th of July themed pasta has egg in it, although it would make a really adorable holiday pasta salad. I might see if my neighbor is having a BBQ and would want to use it. The cookies have milk and egg, and the potatoes have milk and bacon in them.
Veganism can be hard for folks that don't regularly live the lifestyle. Checking things like pasta or cookies doesn't always come naturally. It matters to me though that I do check every ingredient. There is this vegan store by my house (how awesome!) and I don't have to read any labels there and I always savor every trip because I can shop more like a "normal" eater.
My pen pal was Leah who doesn't have a blog yet but is working on starting one about her love of yoga! Leah told me she likes low-sugar "healthy" foods but loves sweets too! A girl after my own heart! Her favorite flavors were banana, dark chocolate, and carrot cake. I was so excited to put these things together for her:
I was obsessed with these raw carrot cake cookies for like two months straight. Chris thought they tasted horrible, so they might not be for everyone. I love the short ingredient list and that they're organic. They are kind of chewy, like most dehydrated crackers. Hopefully Leah loves them!
I got these on a fluke a long time ago because they were buy one get one at Whole Foods and they totally suckered me in! Now I buy them at full price because of how delicious they are. The company is committed to sustainable practices and high quality product. It tastes great too!!
Lastly, I got her some yogi tea because of her love of yoga. It's the cutest thing, there are yoga poses on the side and tips of using tea to help with your mood or energy. I thought the antioxidant blend would make a good after yoga practice refresher!
Happy Month of June, I hope July bring fun vacations and celebration for everyone!
Happy Eating.
Now, don’t you wanna join in the fun?! Here are the Foodie Penpals details:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
I am Sorry your pen pal was not a "label reader"
